40 Day Meditation

Yogic science confirms that it takes 40 days to fully develop a habit. So, there is a challenge that encourages you to choose a mantra that would be most helpful in your life currently. It might require some soul searching.

  • Maybe it is one that I have posted and described...or you can research and find another. I will continue to post new mantras if you would like to wait to see those.
Now, that mantra is to be repeated 108 times. It sounds that would take a long time, but it doesn't take as long as you think, depending on your chosen mantra.

A Mala necklace, which is an Eastern rosary used for mantras, chants, and prayers, has 108 beads so it makes this a lot easier. These necklaces can be easy to find. Easy Shop has some neat malas beads. They are a bit pricey but I'm sure you can find some elsewhere for cheaper.

If you miss a day you have to start the 40 days over again. Doing this could be very beneficial to your lifestyle and even mindset overall. It can also just give you time out of your busy schedule during the day to just relax and breathe.

Om Mani Padme Hum

Om         Ma         Ni         Pad         Me        Hum
(ohm)     (mah)   (nee)   (pahd)    (may)    (hum)

According to Tibetan culture, it is said that all teachings of Buddha are contained in this mantra, and that to know the phrase is to know enlightenment.

It is also said that this verse contains the truth of nature of suffering and how to remove its causes.
But, the translation from Sanskrit to English is very tough..it is actually not possible in a couple of sentences, so the entire phrase must be broken down into 6 syllables to be understood:

Om- the sound or "vibration" of the universe. In the context of chanting and mantras, it is meant to        destroy attachments to ego and establish generosity.

Ma- removes attachment to jealousy and establishes ethics.

Ni- removes attachment to desire and establishes patience.

Pad- removes attachment to prejudice and establishes perseverance.

Me- removes attachment to possessiveness and establishes concentration

Hum- removes attachment to hatred and establishes wisdom.
